Having spent his early years in Durham, Joe and his wife and daughters were long time residents of Roanoke Rapids. Joe was devoted to the church and spent many years serving in prison ministry in northeastern North Carolina. Joe and his wife relocated back to Durham in recent years to be close to family and were members of Guess Road Baptist Church.
Joe is survived by his wife, Lellon Carden Bryant; daughters, B.J. Bryant, Darla Bryant Wilverding (Thomas); and granddaughter, Lauren Wilverding. Joe is preceded in death by his two brothers, P.G. (Garland) Bryant Jr. and Cecil Bryant.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 2 at Guess Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Tilley officiating. Family will receive friends 5 – 7 p.m., Monday, April 1, at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
