WINSLOW - Norman Joseph Plante, 84, of Winslow passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2013, at a local Waterville hospital. He was born in Winslow on April 3, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Arline (Mercier) Plante.

Norman attended Winslow High School and Thomas Business College. He joined the U.S. Navy on March 7, 1946, and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1948.

On August 13, 1949, Norman married the love of his life, the former Frances Hebert of Shawmut. The couple was married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Fairfield. Norman and Frances were longtime residents of Winslow.

He worked various jobs in his younger years, but retired from the State of Maine, Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages. Norman was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, MacCrillis-Rousseau Post 8835 in Winslow and a lifetime member of American Legion, Bourque-Lanigan Post 5 in Waterville. Norman and Frances were communicants of St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow.

Norman was an avid reader and also enjoyed music, dancing, trips to the ocean and lighthouses. Many of Norman's most enjoyable times were spent at home with his loving wife, Frances.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Roland Plante; and his sister, Noela Dennis.

Norman will be sadly missed by his devoted wife, Frances; his sister-in-law, Theresa Plante of Winslow; and several loving nieces and nephews.
