Thomas Harold Birchfield 71, of Huntsville died Sunday at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Clara Birchfield. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha Vandiver Birchfield; two children, Dixie Ann Birchfield Skinner and husband, Rusty, of Mount Sterling, Ky., and Tom Birchfield of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Anna Claire and Mary Ellen Skinner, Lindsay and Thomas Birchfield; and one sister, Linda Powers of Auburn; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a retired educator of 37 years. The last 27 he served as director of the Madison County Technical Center.
