HIS PARENTS: Son of Ambrose (b. 1755) and Ailsey Coffee, Rolly was born in Slate Creek, near what is today Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County, Kentucky. He married Alia/Anne Anderson. Ambrose fought with Daniel Boone at the siege of Boonesborough in September 1778, along with the Andersons of whom Alia-Anne descends.

PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS: Sarah Raleigh (b. 1733) and William Coffee (b. 1729). Records indicate William immigrated from Dublin, Ireland, but I do not know if this was his home or just his last stop before the ship's crossing the Atlantic.

CHILDREN with Anne: Samuel C., Jesse A., Elizabeth B., Nancy, Ann, Aletha, Nicholas H., Nelson P.(buried nearby), John Hanna, and Martha a/k/a "Muddy"--all born in Kentucky.

The U.S. Census finds Rolly's family living in Montgomery County, Kentucky in 1850 (with name spelled "Rawley"). In the 1860 Census his name is spelled "Rolla" by the census taker, and they have moved to the Osage Township in Morgan County, Missouri. By the 1870 Federal census, the family is living in Versailles, Morgan County, Missouri, and his name is spelled "Rolley" (just to confound later family researchers).
