Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - March 29, 2002. Obituary: Emerson Rulon Rich. Emerson Rulon Rich, 87, loving father, grandfather and friend, passed away March 27, 2002 in Salt Lake City. Born April 5, 1914 in Montpelier, Idaho. He was a twin son of Edward Charles and Deborah Dalrymple Rich. He married Alice Croft, January 5, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Montpelier High School (1932) and attended the University of Utah for two years. From 1934 to 1937 he and his twin brother, Edward, served in the German-Austrian Mission. After completing his mission, he continued his education at the Benjamin Franklin School of Accounting in Washington, D.C. and worked for the Federal Housing Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In 1942 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in World War II, returning to Berlin where he had served on his mission. After the war, he moved to Los Angeles, California where he was employed until 1952 when he returned to Salt Lake City. He continued his employment with the Utah State Tax Commission until his retirement in 1980. Emerson was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served three stake missions, in several bishoprics, a member of the high council, Bishop of the Valley View 7th Ward, and an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Emerson and Alice served in the Tennessee Nashville Mission (1981-82) and upon returning from their mission served as guides on Temple Square. Emerson was known for his kindness and love of family and friends. He was the most happy when he was serving others. He was never too busy to help anyone in need and was always willing to share all that he had. He will be greatly missed.

Emerson is survived by his four children, Kathy and Don, both of Salt Lake City; Colleen (Gail) Olsen, Highland, UT; Rochelle (Mike) Egan, Greensburg, PA; his twin brother, Edward H. Rich, Provo; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; two sisters, Helen E. Rich, and Edna R. Nelson and one brother, Joseph C. Rich. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday April 1, 2002 in the Valley View 7th Ward Chapel, 3900 S. 2245 E. Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Easter Sunday, March 31 at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr. and at the church on Monday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
