Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - October 8, 1998. Deceased Name: Death: Gretta Croft. Gretta Croft, age 92, passed away October 6, 1998, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born August 15, 1906, in Morgan, Utah, the second of eight children of Charles Milton Croft and Fannie Heiner Croft. Although Gretta had no children of her own, she became a second mom to all of her nieces and nephews by creating a home filled with love, mutual support and acceptance, and rich with family traditions. She extended her love to others in her work as a teacher and social worker and in a lifetime of church service. Gretta graduated from LDS High School in 1924 and from the University of Utah in 1928, majoring in sociology. She obtained a masters degree in social work from the University of Utah in 1951. She taught school for many years in such schools as Morgan High School and East High School in Salt Lake City. She worked for the British Air Commission and then as an employee relations trainer for the Department of Agriculture under Ezra Taft Benson in Washington DC from 1941 to 1945. Returning to Utah, she taught in the department of religion at Brigham Young University from 1947 to 1949 and worked as a school social worker for Salt Lake City Board of Education District from 1951 to 1972. She traveled throughout the United States, Europe, New Zealand, the Holy Lands and Egypt. She particularly remembered being evacuated during a blackout while on vacation in Munich, Germany in 1938. From 1945 to 1947 she served an LDS Mission to the Hawaiian Islands, a place she loved and returned to several times. Her lifetime of church service included work on the Relief Society General Board, Stake Sunday School Board, and as a temple worker, and Sunday School, MIA and Relief Society teacher.

She is survived by a brother, Bryant Heiner Croft (Gene); and brothers-and sister-in-law, Emerson Rich, Hans Bolstad, and Viola Bennett Croft; and 15 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Charles Milton Croft, Jr., sisters, Virginia Briggs, Patricia Merrill, Alice Rich, Benon Policantritus, June Bolstad, three brothers-in-law and four nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 1998, at 12 noon at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends may call Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 North N Street.
