Rocky Hill, Ky., July 25th, '74. Mr. Editor:
A terrible and fatal accident occurred in this neighborhood, near Hanging Fork Church, on Wednesday morning. Mr. Richard Williams and Sam'l Woods were cutting saw-logs, or stocks, for Hayse & Co.'s mill when a large piece of the top of a gum tree fell, striking Mr. Williams on the head, killing him instantly; his head was so badly crushed that there were none of his features left visable except his chin; his skull bone was crushed into small pieces. He was a clever man, a good citizen and neighbor, a strict member of the Baptist Church, and together with many friends to mourn his loss. (Glasgow Weekly Times, July 30, 1874)
