Rebecca was the daughter of William and Ann Hunt Sharpless. She married David Townsend on April 16, 1812 at the Birmingham Friends Meeting, and they had seven children: Benjamin Franklin, Gulielma Maria, Albert, S. Sharpless, Anna Eliza, Washington Townsend, and Priscilla Ann Townsend.
