Mrs. Charles Lyons died at 9:50 o’clock Tuesday at her residence in this city after an illness of a new weeks which followed a period of about a year in which she was in ill health.
Alpharetta Sperry was born May 14, 1869 and died June 21, 1921, aged 52 years, 5 months and 14 days. She was the daughter of James M. and Phoebe C. Sperry. In 1884, at Springfield, she was married to John C. Taylor, who departed this life January 24, 1917. To this union ten children were born, the following of who survive, William Arthur Taylor and Mrs. Avis C. Rouland of Waverly and Henry Orvil Taylor in the American Army now in Europe.
About 33 years ago decedent was converted at a Free Methodist revival held here and has since lived a consistent Christian life.
On September 27, 1917, she was married o Charles Lyons, by whom she is survived. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lottie Heron of Virden and three brothers, Horace and Henry Sperry of Alton and Frank Sperry of Waverly.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the M.E. Church South, Rev. J. E. Garrett, pastor of the church officiating. Internment was in East Cemetery.
