Info below from FDP:
The Exchange Hotel in downtown Gordonsville was used as a Civil War hospital. The bodies of 700 soldiers were buried there and later re-interred in Maplewood Cemetery, a distance away. It is my understanding that these men were buried in a mass grave and only a few have markers. I did not find a marker for Yancey Allred. I may be wrong but I believe that those with marked graves were contributed by descendants or groups who privately sponsored the stones. The Exchange Hotel is online and you may be able to find more info on their site or by calling them. There is no "Hospital part of the cemetery" that I am aware of on the Exchange Hotel grounds. There is a placard at the back of Maplewood Cemetery in memory of the 700 soldiers.
You can view this on the Maplewood Cemetery main FAG page. (Click the image to enlarge in order to read).
There is a photo of the entire monument (plaque with stone base) stone on the Town of Gordonsville's website.
