Betty Mullane Smith passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on January 18, 2013. Betty was born March 21, 1922 in Big Spring, Texas. After graduation from Big Spring High School, she served as a flight attendant for American Airlines. She then married and moved to Houston, Texas where she was employed by Exxon Chemical until 1993.

After retirement she traveled to many extraordinary places. She rafted down the Colorado River, backpacked the Grand Canyon, explored the Galapagos Islands, hiked to the highest Inca city of Machu Picchu, Peru and traveled to South America just to see the return of Haile's Comet.

Betty had many friends and was involved in many organizations. Among them she was a life long member of the museum of Natural Science in Houston, and President of her chapter of the Houston Delphians.

In her later years she moved to Austin and liked taking trips to the Texas Hill Country to enjoy the beautiful landscape, rivers, and wildflowers. She also lived for spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter, who visited her often.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Adrian Mullane, and her daughter, Maureen Burns. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Mullane and David Smith; two granddaughters, Jacquelyn Smith, and Sarah Starr; and one great granddaughter, Catherine Starr.

Visitation is at 11am at Beresford Funeral Service. Burial following at Forest Park Westheimer, TX.
