Civil War Union Army Surgeon. He served during the Civil War as Assistant Surgeon, Field and Staff, 186th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, being mustered in on May 17, 1864, and being mustered out with his Regiment on August 15, 1865.

On January 7, 1892 he filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #1085330, Certificate #799973).

On February 24, 1913 his wife, Mary P. Gale, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #1002520, Certificate #759828).
