"E. N. Barnum, 67 years old, life-long resident of Arizona, a member of a prominent pioneer family and a member of the Phoenix Merchant Patrol, died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning in his home, 3825 North Central Avenue. Prior to his service with the patrol, Mr. Barnum was employed by the city police department for 12 years.

"Mr. Barnum was the son of Thomas Barnum, cousin of P.T. Barnum, the famous showman, and associate of Jack Swilling in the construction of the Swilling ditch the first irrigation ditch on the north side of the Salt river. His father was also the first paid sheriff of Maricopa county."
