Robert E. Markey, 93, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy Markey with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with the Rev. Ray Hatcher of Salem Lutheran Church, Jacobus officiating.

Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral chapel.

Born on May 28, 1913 in Spry, he was a son of the late Clarence E. and Emma J. (Ness) Markey.

Mr. Markey was employed by Associated Wholesalers where he worked as a Forklift operator and retired from his position in 1978, upon which he continued to farm until 2004. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed baseball.

He was also a member of several organizations such as AARP, the V.F.W. of Potters Mills, and Dallastown American Legion- Post 605. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his brother, Charles Markey of Red Lion; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Wertz and Mabel Kilhefner. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association (York County), Memorial Fulfillment Center, 777 Penn Center Blvd, Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 ; or Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Rd, Jacobus, PA 17407.
