Jerry City, Ohio - Vernon H Arnold Sr., 90, died at 11:48 p.m. Nov. 23, 2009, at Wood County Hospital.
He was born on March 28, 1919, to Fred M. and Mabel E. Coy, Arnold, who preceded him in death.
On June 12, 1946 he married Mary Alice Davies who died on July 20, 1985.
Mr. Arnold retired after 40 plus years as a private contractor working for local farmers and residents of Wood County. He was a World War 2 veteran serving in the Pacific Theater with the 37th Division, 148th Infantry.
He lived in Jerry City for over 62 years. He was a former member of the Jerry City Council and the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge of Jerry City. He enjoyed Fishing, camping, traveling and spending quality time with his family, and a special friend, Irene Kiser of Bowling Green.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Frances Spring, of Delphos; two daughters, Barbara (Bill) Stokes of Bowling Green, Linda (John) McDonald of Cridersville, a son, Vernon (Lisa) Arnold Jr. of Weston; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Thelma Errett, Irene Zimmerman, Dorthy Pool, Mildred Niece, and Ruth Rood; three brothers, Kenneth Arnold, Hugh Arnold and Fred Arnold Jr.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Dunn Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Soltis will officiate. Burial will be at Jerry City cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
