Died 8:07 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 1990, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. He was 69, a native of Amite County, Miss., and a resident of Baker. He was a retired barber and a veteran. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, 9 a.m. until religious services at noon Wednesday, conducted by Dr. Carey Kimbrell. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by two sisters, Helen McCurley, Crosby, Miss., and Bert Ollie, San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Edward Baxter, Natchez, Miss.; four grandchildren, Joe E. Callaway, Baker, Jerry W. Taylor, New Orleans, Kathy T. Gauthier, Baton Rouge, and Cherri T. Ockman, Baker; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Bernice Baxter; and a brother, Virgil Baxter. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and Baker Lodge No. 441, F&AM.
