A 15-year-old Beatrice youth, Ronnie Hackbarth of 422 Scott St., died early Sunday morning in a local hospital from an accidental gunshot wound to the head the previous evening. Hackbarth and his brother, Walter, 17, were at home when the gun accident occurred. Walter reported to Sheriff Fred Steinkamp, Jr., that he and Ronnie were planning to go hunting at the time of the accident.

Walter was talking on the telephone to his girl friend and Ronnie had been "messing" with his gun while he waited for Walter, Steinkamp reported. Walter's girl friend told Steinkamp and Deputy County Attorney Harlan Hubka that she heard the gun go off as she talked to Walter.

Ronnie was rushed to a Beatrice hospital. The .22 rifle bullet entered his head near the temple. The shot was reported to have splintered inside the youth's head.

The boys' mother Mrs. Maxine Hackbarth, was at work at the time of the accident.

Hackbarth was born April 18, 1948, at Beatrice. He was in the 9th grade at Beatrice Junior High.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Maxine Hackbarth: two brothers, Alan R. of Golden, Colo., and Walter L., of Beatrice; one sister, Mrs. William (Jean) Gehring, Golden, Colo.; and his grandfather, Carl Cawood, Blue Springs.

Memorial services for Ronnie Hackbarth, 15, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Harman Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dean DeSelms officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery.
