Son of Edward Charles Clanton and Rachel Moore; married Lorana Smith 27 March 1834 Morgan County, Illinois. He fought in the Black Hawk War, enrolling 30 April 1832 in Morgan County, IL as a private in the company of Capt. William Gillham and was mustered out 1 August 1832. He was a farmer; died after having contracted typhoid fever.
