His parents were Rev. Daniel W. McKoon and Jane T. (Young) McKoon.

There is an enlistment for him in the Civil War Muster, of 1862, Great Valley, NY, as town of enlistment.

He became a Free Baptist minister, and was a leader in the Humphrey Free Bapt Church, where his father ministered. He was also clerk of the Yearly meeting for many years, and was Commissioner of schools.
He married Ann Crary (1845-1914), in 1865 per 1900 census.
Her aunt, Sophia O. [Orissa] living with them.

(the McKoon family surname is spelled several ways in the cemetery listings, McCoon, McGoun, etc, but early records, as well as cemetery records, show it as "McKoon."
