Helen Landis Baker, 95, formerly of RD2 Newport, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
Born May 12, 1901, in Havana, Cuba, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Clair and Bertha Rippman Landis and was the widow of Elmer R. Baker.
A graduate of St. Mary's Hall in Burlington, N.J., she moved to Germany in 1919 with her family, where she attended school in Switzerland and studied the arts in Hamburg, Germany.
She was an active member of the Newport Women's Club, Newport Civic Club and the Newport Garden Club. She was a member of the Perry County Historical Society and the Newport United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, John C.L. of San Antonio, Texas and Elmer R. "Bob" Jr. of Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Mary Landis of Newport and Virginia Christie of New Bloomfield; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Boyer Funeral Home, 101 W. Main St., New Bloomfield, with the Rev. William Warne officiating, assisted by Robert McGuire. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, 1122 Green St., Harrisburg 17102.
