John Wesley Keplinger, who for a number of years was a well known and highly respected resident of this city, died at Sunset Home, in Quincy, Monday, August 29, having spent the past few years at the Home.
He was born on a farm five miles south of Waverly, October 24, 1851, the son of John E. and Loretta Keplinger, and was 86 years, 10 months and 5 days of age at the time of his death.
He was converted at an early age, and united with the First M. E. church in this city.
In October, 1879, Mr. Keplinger was united in marriage to Mary Boyd, who preceded him in death April 29, 1915.
In June, 1917, he was married to Miss Fannie Bates, of this city, who departed this life March 28, 1934.
Surviving relatives are a son, Oscar Keplinger, and a grandson, John of St. Joseph, Mo., and a granddaughter, Mrs. Daisy Stevens, of St. Louis. He also leaves three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Short funeral services were held at Sunset Home, in Quincy, Tuesday, conducted by Dr. C. F. Buker, Superintendent of the Home, after which the remains were brought to Waverly.
Services were held at the First M. E. church Wednesday morning,a t 10 o'clock, in charge of Dr. Buker, assisted by Rev. D. K. Sailor, pastor of the church.
Intement was in East cemetery.
