Alta Schurman, 87, was born at Norden, Nebraska to John A. Allen and Laura Bolish Allen. As a girl, she attended the Cuba School in Brown County, Nebraska. Alta married Oscar Pratt in 1916 at Ainsworth, and they made their home for some time, before moving to the Dawes County area. Oscar passed away in 1942, and Alta remarried to Andrew Schurman in 1946 in Ainsworth, where they made their home. Alta was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Ainsworth. She also loved to embroider and crotche
Alta was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Oscar and Andrew; two sons, Johnny and Allen; Brothers: Ben, John, Ray, Clarence, and Bill; sisters: Effie, Viola, Alma, Evie, and Rose.
Survivors include a son, Elvin Pratt of Portland, Oregon; daughters: Esther Saxton of Roseberg, Oregon, Ruby Henderson of Willimina, Oregon, Donna Farmer of Roseberg, Arvilla Kenaston of Springview, NE, and Marlene Arent of Nampa, ID; sisters: Ethel Eckley of Ainsworth, NE, Rena Nesius of Siloam Springs, AR, and Opal Sterck of Sheridan, Wyoming; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday February 20, 1990 at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Ainsworth, NE with the Rev. Daniel St. Clair officiating. Internment was held at the Crawford City Cemetery in Crawford, Nebraska.
