After the parents' divorce in 1773, Hattie was raised by her aunt Rachel E. [McQuillin] & George Dailey. Her brother, Frank W., went to another McQuillin aunt, Hattie J. Meeker and sister, Etta Mae, remained with her mother. Edward left town and never contacted his children again.

Descendant, Sheila Marlatt Chonko's father told her that he listened to his grandmother Hattie say on several occasions that the last time she saw her father Edward McQuillin, he came down the lane on his horse, picked her up onto the saddle and said: "Be a good girl and remember I love you. I'll be back to get you kids." She always expected his return.

Marriage: Elmer Herman Sindel
Nov. 29, 1888, Fulton Co., OH (v 5 p 208)

"Golden Wedding - Mr. and Mrs. Elmer H. Sindel of Lyons, observed their Golden Wedding anniversary at their home, Tuesday. Mr. Sindel is not in good health so the day was pleasantly passed with their two children and families and a few friends. Mr. Sindel is a son of Edward C. Sindel who settled in what is now Fulton county in 1834. They were prominent citizens of Pike township and for many years had their home at Winameg. Elmer Sindel moved to Lyons, and was a mail carrier on one of the rural routes out of that town until retired a number of years ago having served the full number of years that he could under the law. He was an honest, faithful servant and the people along his route appreciated him. Mr. and Mrs. Sindel are members of the Christian Church and have taken an active part in its work. They are receiving congratulations from their many friends. Mr. Sindel is a brother of Estel Sindel at Delta, and Everett Sindel at Winameg."
