Dorothy Marie Potter, 78, a 53-year Albuquerque resident, went home to be with our Lord on June 8, 2005. She passed away at her family's home after a lengthy illness and a several year battle with osteoporosis. Dorothy's life embodied courage, strength, commitment, and a strong will to fight for life until the end so that she could fulfill her promises to her grandchildren. As another of America's Greatest Generation passes, we mourn our loss but are forever grateful for her love, consideration, and the sacrifices she made throughout her life to provide for others before herself.

Dorothy was born March 23, 1927 in Roanoke Rapids, NC, to Frank A. and Sammie Jones Nantz, where she worked and graduated from high school. She grew up during the Great Depression and World War II, and after the war she moved from North Carolina to marry, have two children, and to begin and retire from a 30-year career with the Public Service Company of NM.
Survived by her son, Claude S. Potter and Suzanne Y. Colbert, who provided a daughter's special love and took care of Dorothy during her many years of illness, and Suzanne's children, Stanley and Olivia; her son, Frank E. Potter and his partner Olivia Chavez; her loving grandchildren, Evan W. Potter and Caitlin Marie Potter; her lifelong friends and neighbors, David and Garda Gonzales; her former daughter-in-law, Kathleen Montoya-Potter; sisters-in-law, Bobbie and Sarah Nantz; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Frank Junior and Robert A. Nantz; and her sisters, Patricia Draughan and Juanita Baker.
