A son of Albert Clifford Boals and Phoebe M. Humphrey, he married first on October 14, 1896 at Belmond, Iowa, to Miss Grace Brewsaugh. They had two daughters, Alberta and Grace Jeanette (#51327635). They were divorced before 1910, and Bert married on October 29, 1911 to Miss Anna Martha Foster at Webster, Iowa. Bert was a painter. By 1918, he was an inmate at the state hospital in Clarinda and in his WWI registration was listed as "insane." He died at Clarinda, and his father brought him home for burial.
