Robert Donald Beck was born March 8, 1955, in Davenport, a son of Milton and Shirley (Williams) Beck. Robert graduated from Central High School in 1973. He attended Iowa State University where he studied theology. He then attended the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, where he graduated June 7, 1981. He was ordained on June 14, 1981, and his first calling was at Zieger Memorial Church in Muscatine. He also served other churches in Denver, Colo., New Mexico, and Grimes, Iowa. He left the ministry in 1998 and worked in long term care and hospice.
Survivors include his son, Zach Beck; a grandson, Ayden Beck of Grimes; and daughters, Sarah Beck of Waukee, Iowa, and Elizabeth Beck of Fort Pierce. Also surviving is his father and stepmother, Milton and Margaret Beck, and brother, Richard Beck. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Beck, grandparents, Agnes and Howard Williams and Bertha and Lansing Beck.
