Lead Daily Call newspaper, December 20, 1918 - "Mrs. Mary Barnett Dead. Passed Away Early This Morning at Home on S. Bleeker Street.
Mrs. Mary Barnett, aged 33 years, wife of William Barnett, an employe of the Homestake company, passed away at 3 o'clock, this morning at the family home at the upper end of South Bleeker street, a victim of influenza and pneumonia. She leaves her husband and three small children and also her father and two sisters, and two brothers living on ranch at Cottonwood. Before coming to Lead in March 1916, the family lived on a farm near Valentine, Neb. The husband, William Barnett, has just recovered from the flu and the three children are now ill with the disease.
It has not yet been decided whether the remains will be buried here or sent to Cottonwood. Her father was communicated with by telephone this morning and will arrive in Lead tomorrow, when a decision relative to the disposition of the body will be reached."

Lead Daily Call, December 23, 1918 - "The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Barnett, wife of William Barnett, who died at her home on South Bleeker street early last Friday morning, will take place tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock from the Mead undertaking parlors, Rev. Hupp officiating. Interment will be made in South Lead cemetery."

Lead Daily Cal, December 24, 1918 - "Mrs. Wm. Barnett Buried. Funeral Took Place This Morning. Burial in South Lead.
The funeral of Mrs. William Barnett of South Bleeker street, was held from the Mead undertaking parlors today at ten o'clock. Interment was made in the municipal cemetery. Rev. J. Maurice Hupp of the Baptist church conducted brief services at the grave.
Mary H. Peterson, daughter of Peter H. Peterson, was born at Henry, S.D., in 1885. She was united in marriage to William Barnett in 1901. She died Dec. 19, at her home on South Bleeker, after a week's illness with influenza. She is survived by her husband and three small children, the oldest a girl of 9 years, the youngest a babe.
She also leaves a father, two brothers and one sister, all of whom reside near Kadoka, S.D. Her father, Peter H. Peterson and her brother William, who has been at Camp Funston, were both present at the funeral, also a brother Roger of Kadoka.
The Barnett family have all been very ill with influenza, but are now slowly recovering."
