Full name is believed by some to be Thomas Garner Jackson. No evidence has been found to support "Garner" as his middle name, although it may be correct. Another possibility is "Gardner".

It is believed by most researchers of this family that Thomas G Jackson was the son of James Jackson and Rachel Bills. This predominant theory is probably correct, but appears to be based mainly on the fact that Thomas was appointed as one of the executors of the will of James Jackson, although no relationship was stated. The other executors were Isaac P Jackson and James C Powell, with wife Rachel as executrix. From other documents, Isaac P Jackson is known to be a son and James C Powell a son-in-law of Rachel and James Jackson. This would not preclude the possibility that Thomas G was instead a nephew or other relative, but that is far less likely.

There are some, however, who believe Thomas G Jackson to be the brother of Mary Jackson McNutt and therefore a son of her presumed father, Brice Jackson. This seems less likely than the previous theory, but should be mentioned until definitive proof is found.
