Ernest Edward "Buddy" Hammer, age 79, of Asheboro, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. A memorial service will follow on Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Roger Pritchard and Rev. Chip McAulay officiating.

Mr. Hammer was born in Charlotte, NC on February 15, 1934 to Theodore R. and Conie McNeill Hammer. Buddy enjoyed having breakfast daily with his Biscuitville buddies, where they solved all world and sports issues. Buddy loved baseball. He played American Legion baseball and also played for Acme-McCrary and the Randolph County League. Buddy was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. Buddy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and spending time with all his grandchildren. After retiring from Rampon Industries, Buddy started Richland Creek Zipline Canopy Tour in Asheboro and successfully ran the business until his death. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his sister Betty Jean Hammer, brother David T. Hammer, and granddaughter Kandi Gail Cox.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn H. Hammer; daughters, Gaynelle H. DeLappe and her husband David of High Point, NC, Wanda H. Cox and her husband Dannie of Ramseur, NC; granddaughters, Michelle F. Beane and Keli C. Kearns both of Ramseur, NC; the joy of his life, his great grandchildren, Simone Beane, Hunter Phillips, and Tristan Phillips; brother, Wayne Hammer of Asheboro, NC; sister, Doris H. Efird of Albemarle, NC; and several special nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian's United Outreach Center (CUOC), PO Box 784, Asheboro, NC 27204 or Old North State Council, Boys Scouts of America, P.O. Box 29046, Greensboro, NC 27429.
