Betty Jane Davis DeWilde, 71, died in her home on April 22, 2012 following a prolonged battle with cancer.
She was born in Oldtown, MD on July 24, 1940. She served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1960. A longtime resident of Beaufort, Mrs. DeWilde cared for many as a nurse’s aide at Bayview Nursing Home, provided for numerous children at the Child Development Center on Parris Island and served as a Home League Fellowship Assistant with The Salvation Army. She was an active member of the Shell Point Baptist Church.
Married for seventeen years to the late Edmond Dewilde, Jr., she was survived by her son, Tory DeWilde of Beaufort, a granddaughter Torri M. DeWilde and great granddaughter Athena Marie Snyder of Pioneer, OH. She leaves many family members and loved ones in MD, VA, NC and SC. She was predeceased by her son, Troy DeWilde.
She was a gracious woman that loved everyone and helped anyone in need. She was loved by all and will be missed by many.
Services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Shell Point Baptist Church, interment to follow at Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th St., Port Royal, SC 29935.
