Kirklan was born and raised in Warren, Ohio. He was in the ninth grade at Warren G. Harding High School. Kirklan would shovel snow and cut grass for his neighbors; he enjoyed playing football, basketball, listening to music, taking pictures, and hanging out with friends. Left behind to mourn his passing, his loving mother, five brothers, three sisters; his grandparents; and a great-grandmother, and a host of other relatives and friends. Kirklan was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, Herbert Behner. Kirkland was one of six teens that died when the 1998 Honda Passport SUV in which he was a passenger veered off the road, hit a guardrail, overturned, and plunged into a swamp, landing upside down in the water. None of the teens were wearing seat belts.
