Mr. Oscar McCone, 81, of Hamburg died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. A native of Collins, he was a resident of the Crossroads community outside Hamburg for the past 50 years, a member and deacon of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in North Crossett and an U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He retied from Georgia-Pacific Corp. in 1979 after 41 years of service and was a songwriter and loved gospel music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Della Phillips McCone, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Tucker McCone of Hamburg; two sons, Mickey McCone and Rusty McCone of Hamburg; a brother, Enoch McCone of Monticello; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 24, in the Mount Olive Baptist Church in North Crossett with Revs. Jimmy Wallace, Randy Maxwell and Blaine Beck officiating. Pallbearers were Robert McCone, Jr., Alan and Trent McCone, Danny Carter, Luke Clark, and Cleveland Smith. Burial followed services at the Crossroads Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
