KING - The Rev. Howard Blaine Baker, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his granddaughter's home in Oak Island. Howard was born in Stokes County on Oct. 21, 1926, to Callie F. and Hallie C. Johnson Baker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. Howard loved his Lord and enjoyed preaching his word on the radio stations in our listening area. Surviving are his wife, Helen Moser Baker; a daughter, Debbie Lynn Brewer of Walkertown; a son, Lane Wagoner and wife Carolyn of South Hill, Va.; two granddaughters, Sabrina Lee Carithers of Oak Island and Angela (Mike) Atwood of Rural Hall; a sister, Margie Mickiewicg of King; and a special caring and thoughtful friend, Audie Allen of Oak Island. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Monday, Jan. 30, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall, by Brother Bobby Wall, with burial to follow at Quaker Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 29, at the funeral home.
