Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church, Albany, with Rev. Tommy Lowery officiating. There will be a private burial at Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
Mrs. Brashears was preceded death by her husband, Joe Thomas Brashears, and a daughter, Mary Brashears Touchton.
Survivors include a brother, Wayne Hudson of Memphis , TN, a daughter, Brenda Brashears Charles (Lyle) of Dothan, AL, a granddaughter, Leigh Ann King (Doug) of Charlotte, NC, three grandsons, George Charles (Jennifer) of Kansas City, Mo, Ernest Ward (Jennifer) of Peachtree City, GA and Alan Ward (Cassie) of Watkinsville, GA, ten great-grandchildren and several Nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Brashears was born and grew up in Harriman, TN, daughter of the late Henry Richard and Leona Maude Edington Hudson. She attended Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. She was married in 1940 and later moved from Atlanta to Albany in 1952 with her husband and two young daughters. She was as member of First Christian Church where she taught an adult Sunday School Class for many years and also served as an elder. She loved her church and impacted many people's lives through her service there. She was also a member of the Albany Women's Club and the DAR.
Mrs. Brashears will be greatly missed by her friends and family because to know her was to love her.
The family is deeply grateful to all the caregivers who lovingly and faithfully cared for her at home during the past four years.
