Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend Parley Keith Nelson passed away peacefully on March 5, 2013, at his home from complications resulting from malignant melanoma.

He was born Nov. 11, 1939, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Ferrel and Chloe Hanks Nelson. He graduated from Madison High School in 1958, and attended Stanford University for one year before serving an LDS mission in central Germany.

Keith married his high school sweetheart, Twila Simmons, on July 22, 1964, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They enjoyed 48 wonderful years together.

Keith graduated from Stanford University in 1965, and earned his J.D. degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1968. Soon thereafter, Keith and his law school classmate, Bob Miller, formed the firm of Miller & Nelson, which later became Richards Brandt Miller & Nelson. Keith was a highly esteemed attorney and mentor.

He was also a man of great faith who loved the gospel. He served as a Gospel Doctrine teacher, bishop, high councilman and temple worker. He and Twila spent the last 10 years serving as missionaries in the LDS Addiction Recovery Program, where they found great joy helping those struggling with addiction.

Keith was a seasoned athlete and had a deep passion for running. He ran countless marathons all over the United States, including Boston, New York, Big Sur, Avenue of the Giants, Arizona Rock N Roll, and the St. George Marathon, which he ran 33 consecutive years.

Keith also loved to hunt, camp, hike, bike and ride his motorcycles. He enjoyed many memorable motorcycle and bike trips with his friends all over the western United States, but he enjoyed nothing more than his annual summer trip with Twila to Jackson Hole, Wyo., where they enjoyed hiking around the Tetons.

Keith was a true friend to everyone. He never judged or lectured, but rather listened and offered great wisdom and advice. He will be remembered for his patience and loving nature to all those he came in contact with.

His grandchildren provided great joy in his life. He loved to watch their sporting events, attend recitals, take them to dinner on their birthday and have them over to visit or sleep over.

He is survived by his wife, Twila; his son, Darren (Kim), his daughters, Amy (Guillermo) and Angie Welder (Dave); as well as his grandchildren Zachary, Alec, Brooklyn, McKenna, Sam, Thomas, Abby, Mason, Jackson and Andrea.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Northridge Ward Chapel, 11196 South Wasatch Blvd., Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 10600 South 1950 East, Sandy and also from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday prior to services at the Chapel.
