After a long battle with dementia, Lorna Parks McKinney Branecky entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

Lorna Vera Parks was born February 24, 1928 to Cyrus Parks and Vera Thigpen Parks on the Parks Ranch in Goliad County, Texas. Her father established a bookkeeping business and moved the family to San Antonio, where Lorna graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1945. She attended Southwest Texas State Teacher's College, now Texas State University, and graduated with a degree in education in 1948.

Lorna landed her first teaching position in Taft, Texas in the fall of 1948, and there she met Cecil McKinney. The couple married in July 1949. In 1951, Cecil and Lorna moved to a small ranch south of Seguin where she began teaching at the Leissner School. Following her time at Leissner, Lorna spent several years teaching at the Elm Creek School where she taught four grade levels and coached volleyball and basketball. Some of Lorna's fondest memories were of the children she taught in those two school houses. After teaching for four years in Navarro Independent School District, Lorna spent the rest of her career in Seguin Independent School District. In Seguin, Lorna taught sixth grade and earned her masters degree in 1979. She finished her career as language arts curriculum coordinator. Lorna spent her entire career striving for excellence in teaching. She delighted in helping new teachers learn her craft, and her greatest professional joy was seeing others succeed.

Lorna married Joe Branecky in June 1989.

In retirement, Lorna kept busy volunteering at her church and with civic organizations. She devoted countless hours as a welcomed and integral part of her grandchildren's lives.

Lorna Mckinney Branecky is survived by her husband, Joe Branecky; her daughter, Terry Boehnke and husband Ralph; her son, Barry Mckinney and wife Sharon; and her grandchildren Annie Boehnke, Michael Boehnke and Kellis King.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seguin Education Foundation in support of the Saegert Sixth Grade Center or to Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Interment will be held on Saturday, March 16th at San Geronimo Cemetery at 10 am with a memorial service following at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at 11 am. Please visit www.goetzfuneral.com to sign the online guest book.
