John M. Snoddy, 90, of State Route 44, Allenwood, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at his home.

Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Gregg Township, Union County, he was the son of the late John O. and Elisabeth (McCormick) Snoddy. He was married to the former Marjorie Baylor who preceded him in death in 1953. On Feb. 4, 1956, he married the former Margaret E. Russell and they celebrated 53 years of marriage until her death March 20, 2009.

He was a 1940 graduate of Watsontown High School where he played baseball and was on the 1939 Championship team.

John served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II loading bombs on B-17 bombers in England.

He was a farmer most of his life in the Allenwood area, and earlier in life had worked briefly at Bethlehem Steel, Williamsport.

He was a member of the White Deer Valley Baptist Church, Allenwood, Watsontown Masonic Lodge No. 401 F&AM and the PA Farm Bureau.

John loved hunting, reading and Phillies baseball.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas M. and Susan R. Snoddy; Terry E. and Sue E. Snoddy, all of Allenwood; Jay R. Snoddy, Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Christina B. and Daniel Maloney, Morgantown, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren, Heather (Richard) Terrell, Laurel (Boris) Gerber, Amalia (Christopher) Luongo, Kyle Snoddy, Sean (Rachel) Snoddy, Seth Snoddy, Beth (Joshua) Dreisbach, Kathleen, Timothy and Andrew Maloney; five great-grandchildren, Eibhlin and Kieran Terrell, Connor and Logan Luongo, and Milla Gerber.

Preceding him in death, besides his wives, was a sister, Betty Ranck, who died in 2010.

Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at White Deer Valley Baptist Church, 572 White Deer Valley Baptist Church Road, Allenwood, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Diehl, his pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to either his church or Sun Home Health Hospice, 61 Duke St., P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.
