Levi Alcon Sr. a lifelong resident of Mora County, passed away at his home surrounded by his family and went to be with our Lord on March 12, 2013.
Levi was born in Ojo Feliz on April 3, 1921, to the late Macedonio and Beatrice Alcon.
Levi was preceded in death by his parents, Macedonio and Beatrice Alcon, his very dear grandson, Justin Gabriel Alcon, brother, Alfonso Alcon and sister, Dorothy Vigil, sisters-in-law, Nora Alcon, Mary Padilla, Margaret and Petrita Alcon and brothers-in-law, Tony Vigil and Epifanio Vigil.
Levi is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 67 years, Alice P. Alcon, children, Idine Michalski (Nick), JoAnn Alcon-Ortiz (Tommy), Eddy Alcon (Jeanette), Dianna Medrano (Roland) and Levi Alcon Jr. (Yvette), grandchildren, Travis Regensberg, Bengie Regensberg (Patricia), Manuel Michalski (Juanita), Nichole Alicia Collins (Paul), Erica Roybal, Rochelle Alcon(Orlando), Roland Medrano Jr.(Janice), Sean Medrano (Letticia), Jayvis Medrano, Audey Alcon (Mercedes), Cody Alcon (Rae), Dakota Alcon, Naomi and Tamara Ortiz, Viola Garcia (Marcos) and Micheal Salcido (Ray), great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Laverne and Luke Regensberg, Kimberly and Kathryn Regensberg, Savannah Michalski, Rebekah and Alannah Roybal, Bryan and Lucas Alcon, Santianna and Santiago Medrano, Tatiana and Solis Medrano, Dylan, Sierra and Ayden Alcon, Adam Alcon, Dorothea Delgado(Patrick), Mykela and Cruz Garcia, Jada and Antonio Salcido, Diego Ortiz and great-great-grandchildren, Kaela and Patrick Derek Delgado. Levi is also survived by brothers, Bernabe Alcon (Eloisa), Elude Alcon (Prebble), Lupe Alcon, Jake Alcon, Sisters Senaida Vigil, Joycelyn Gonzales (Ruben), Laura Cruz, brother-in-law, Jose Padilla and sister-in-law, Viviana Sandoval and Jerry Padilla (Margaret) and many nieces and nephews.
Levi was a faithful member of the Cleveland Church of Christ, his devotion was to God and was always eager to share God's message with his family and friends.
Levi was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather, he valued the relationship of the family. Levi's career life consisted of the following, Veteran of World War II, 729th Engineering Core, 37th Second Engineering Regiment and was honorably discharged on October 27, 1945 (1942-1945). Levi was the first State Representative of Mora County and served two terms from 1954 until 1958. Board Member and chairman of Mora Independent School Board from approximately 1962 until 1974. As a member of the Mora School Board he participated in the first Luna Vocational Technical Institute Task Force, where he later in 1970 became one of the first board members representing Mora County on the LVTI Board of Trustees. Levi was Magistrate Judge of Mora County for approximately 8 years and was elected as the President of the Judges Association at a meeting held in Las Vegas, NV. As President of the Judges Association he traveled with his wife to represent New Mexico judges at meetings in New York and other states. Levi was a prominent business man and was known as "El Mercador de Vacas" a cattle dealer who was known throughout New Mexico and the four corner states for his wisdom in buying and selling cattle.
There will be a visitation for family and friends on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at Rogers Mortuary in Las Vegas, NM. Church Services on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Church of Christ in Cleveland, NM and Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Cleveland Church of Christ with Luis Telemantes officiating, followed by burial at the Justin Alcon Family Cemetery in Canoncito, NM, mile marker 25.5 Hwy 518. Pallbearers will be Travis Regenberg, Bengie Regensberg, Audey Alcon, Cody Alcon, Ayden Alcon, Dakota Alcon, Bryan Alcon, Lucas Alcon, Roland Medrano, Sean Medrano, Jayvis Medrano and Manuel Michalski. Honorary pallbearers are the rest of his grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Special honorary pallbearers are Moise Medina, Willie Martinez, Ernesto Lovato, Harold Daniels, Tony Duran and Gabe Estrada.
