Tommy Lou (Ming) Mooi age 87, of Holland, MI. and Marco Island, Fl. passed away at Appledorn Living Center on Sunday, March 3, 2013.
Tommy Lou was born in Lancaster, CA to Oscar and Margaret Ming in 1925. She was raised in Holland where she graduated from Holland High School.
She worked as a secretary for the Holland Racine Shoe Company, as a private secretary for the P.T. Cheff family, and Mooi Roofing. Tommy Lou was an active member of Bethel Reformed Church, Beechwood Reformed Church, and Fellowship Reformed Church as well as Wesley United Methodist Church in Florida.
In addition to working as a secretary, she spent much of her life devoted to her family and community. She donated hours of service to the Junior Welfare League, Women's Literary Club, Camp Fire, Boy Scouts, Holland Hospital, Marco Island Library. She was an avid reader, gardner, knitter, and enjoyed ballroom dancing. She enthusiastically competed in bridge games, tennis, and golf and spent many hours on her family's boats.
Tommy Lou is survived by her husband of 65 years, James; her children, Robert and Mary Mooi of Elkhart, IN., Nancy and Jeffrey Helder of Holland; siblings, Bruce and Karen Ming of Hamilton, Marilyn Kane of Holland; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant son, David Allen Mooi, her parents, Oscar and Margaret Ming; and in-laws: Herman and Anita Mooi, Edith and Ray Denekas, and Dale and Joyce Mooi.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland with Rev. James Baar officiating. The family will meet with friends and family one hour prior to the service. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of David Allen Mooi.
