North Vernon - Richard Allen Landis, 59, died Tuesday in North Vernon.
He was born in Marion to Ralph Landis and Loretta (Connie) Snider and attended Marion High School. He received his GED and completed two years of college in the Navy. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in December 1964. He served on the U.S.S. Canberra and U.S.S. Boston Missile cruisers and worked for the Army from 1983 to 2000. He worked at the Jefferson Proving Ground and the Yuma (Ariz.) Proving Ground until retirement in September 2000.
Mr. Landis was a former member of the American Legion. He loved his family, and his hobbies were fishing and hunting.
Survivors include:
four daughters, Shannon Huffman and Susan, both of North Vernon, and Lisa Geiger and Lori, both of Marion; a son, Richard Allen II, Marion; a stepdaughter, Vickie (Tom) Russell, Marion; four grandchildren, Arthur Geiger, Mary Beth and Nichole, all of North Vernon, and Ridge McCoy, Marion; five step-grandchildren, Brittany and Riley Russell, Ronnie, Ashley and Stephanie, all of Marion; a sister, Carol (Randy) Armes, Gas City; a nephew, Ryan; a niece, Karen Armes; and a special friend, Charles (Butch) Vermillion.
