Bertha F. Loux, 93, loved the outdoors & family

Bertha Florence Loux, the daughter of Walter and Vera (Dewey) Wilcox, was born April 12, 1915, in Troy Township, Woolstock, Iowa. She received her education at Woolstock Public School. She married Harold Baker on August 15, 1931, at Millington, Ill. The couple made their home in Woolstock. She and Harold had three sons: William, DuWaine, and Ronald. Her husband, Harold, died October 24, 1940. She married Woodrow Loux on February 22, 1945, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Eagle Grove. They made their home in Eagle Grove and she worked at various businesses in town. Woodrow died in February, 1973, at the explosion on main street. She belonged to the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in the church women's organizations She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to go camping and fishing, working with her flowers and garden, and being around her family and friends, especially the grandchildren. She always took pride in the fact that she was the granddaughter of Stephen Wilcox, one of the first settlers in Troy Township.

Bertha Loux died December 23, 2008, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 93 years. She was preceded in death by her husbands; son, Harold DuWaine Baker; and three sisters, Reva Parrish, Beulah Sheriff, and Hazel McCollough. Survivors include her sons, William (Viola) Baker, and Ronald (Loretta) Baker, both of Eagle Grove; daughter-in-law, Violet Baker of Ames; four grandchildren, Susan (Michael) McCable of Pekin, Ill.; David (Rachael) Baker of Kansas City, Bryan (Mary) Baker and Kenneth Baker of Eagle Grove; five great-grandchildren, Bianca and Benjamin of Eagle Grove, Ellen, Max, and Jessie of Kansas City; sister, Mabel Bohy of Eagle Grove, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 30, at 1 p.m. at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Lang officiating. Burial was held in Troy Cemetery, south of Eagle Grove. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
