Elizabeth married William Paterson Woodruff Dec 1839 probably in Randolph County, Virginia which later became West Virginia. They were the parents of nine children.
Their family was enumerated in the 1840 census residing in Randolph County, Virginia and in 1850 residing in Barbour County (created in 1843), Virginia. This later became the state of West Virginia. William died in 1858 in Davis County, Iowa.
The 1860 census of Scotland County, Missouri records Elizabeth as a 35 year old widow with the care of eight children, age 19 to 3. It is not known if she married at a young age, or if the older children were born to an earlier marriage of their father.
Two years later Elizabeth married widower Nicholas Arthur, 18 Sep 1860 in Scotland County, Missouri. They moved to St Louis where Nicholas was employed as a ropemaker. The city directories listed his surname as "Arthurs." Their marriage license and other records stated "Arthur." Three children were born to this marriage. The youngest child died five days after the mother. They were buried in the same plot in Bellefontaine cemetery. Nicholas later married and moved to New Orleans where he died in 1907.
