After An Extended Illness—Interment Made Wednesday

Homer, Ill., July 22.—Mrs. T. J. McPherren, of this place, died at the McPherren home on Monday evening after an illness extending several months. Mrs. McPherren, whose maiden name was Amanda Roberts was born in Fountain County, Ind., on Sept. 29th, 1837, and came to Champaign County, Ill., when she was twenty years old. Practically all of her life was spent in Champaign, Vermilion and Ford counties, Illinois. When rather young she joined the Free Methodist church and was an earnest followers of the faith the remainder of her life. About 1858 she was married to T. J. McPherren and to them were born ten children, nine of whom survive. Mr. McPherren died in 1900 soon after which the family moved to Homer. The surviving children are: Mrs. Marie Miller, Romney, Ind.; Mrs. L. N. Hall, Champaign, Ill.; Miss Mary McPherren, Homer, Ill.; T. J. McPherren, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; Robert McPherren, Denison, Texas; C. W. McPherren, Homer, Ill.; J. P. McPherren, Homer, Ill. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Margaret McJunkens, of Green Valley, Kas., one half sister, Mrs. Martha Pales, of Kingman, Ind., and two brothers, Henry and Mark Roberts, who live in Kansas. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at four o’clock, probably from the house. Interment will be made at the G. A. R. cemetery. (transcribed by Homer Historical Society)
