Bertha Pfaff was born in Osceola County, Iowa, Sept. 19, 1884, departed this life at Atwood, Kan., on Feb. 1, 1929, at the age of 44 years, four months, 12 days. When she was but seven years of age her parents moved to Lincoln County, Kan., in the neighborhood near Prairie Grove where she grew to womanhood.
At the age of eighteen she was united in marriage to Mr. A.C. Boyer. He also was a Lincoln County boy. To this union were born 12 children, all are still living to add comfort to the bereft father. The children are as follows: Miss Thelma R. of Search Light, Nev.; Miss Shirley W. of Wassan, Flats of Montana; William B.; Thermal A.; James; Jay C.; Ray Merrion; Charlotte E.; C. Perishing; Clifford Emerson; Bertha E. and Leonard Harvey. The last 10 remain at home with the father. She also leaves her aged father, J.F. Pfaff of Salina, and five sisters, Mrs. Webster of N.D.; Mrs. McCracken of Texas; Mrs. Montgomery of Salina and Blanche and Reba, also of Salina, and a host of friends.
Mr. Boyer with his family moved near Colby, Kan., about two years ago on a farm southwest of the town. Mrs. Boyer was a very great sufferer for a long time before her operation, but was a very faithful loving wife and mother. In 1907, a revival held at the home church the Lord spoke to her, she heard and has heeded the call and gave her heart to the Lord, was wonderfully saved and joined the Methodist church and remained true to her vows to the end.
After having revived from the operation she said to her sister Reba: "The Lord has answered my prayers. I asked Him to see me through and he has done it, write to Pa." When her sister saw the end was near she asked her, or rather told her she was a very sick woman and asked her if all was well and she said, "Everything is all right." The body was taken to Lincoln County and the funeral was preached at the Prairie Grove Church by Rev. A.J. Lunsford and the body was laid to rest in the Prairie Grove Cemetery.
