Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 22 Feb 1889 -
"East Lewistown - John P. Calvin, well known to the people of Beaver and Green Townships, came to the residence of John Coy (who lives one mile south of town) on Sunday evening last, where he drank several glasses of cider and then started to go home, saying as he went out, that he had a good ways to go home and not feeling very well he was invited to remain all night. Returning to the house they (Martin Coy and Calvin) smoked several pipes of tobacco and then retired to bed. About 3 o'clock the next morning Martin awoke and thinking all was not right with his bed-fellow, he investigated the matter found that Calvin was dead. "Squire Sonnedecker, of North Lima, acting as coroner, held an inquest Monday evening. A postmortem examination was held Tuesday forenoon, after which the remains were interred in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Verdict of coroner's jury, "Death caused by intoxication." -
"North Lima - Our Justice of the Peace was called to East Lewistown on Monday to impanel a jury and hold an inquest on the body of John P. Calvin of Green Township, who was found dead in bed at a Mr. Coy's house, near the above named place. Verdict – met his death by intoxication."
