Absolom Albert Steagald is the son of John Jacob Steagald and Mary Elizabeth Haley. On July 7, 1867, he married Catherine A. Crain.

Union Veteran dead

Absolom A. Steagald, age 67, died this morning at 3:00.

Funeral will be held from his late residence 19 Scott St. SW to Rose Hill tomorrow, conducted by Rev. C. R. Gray and Bradford Post No. 55, Grand Army of the Republic. The comrade served as commissary sergeant in the second regiment of mounted infantry, U. S. Volunteer during the Civil War.

He leaves surviving him a widow, three daughters, Mrs. W. T. Freeman, Mrs. W. R. Plummer, Mrs. W. W. White, and two sons, E. A. Steagald of Ardmore and J. J. Steagald of East Prairie, Missouri.
