Middlesex - Louise Morgan Whitley, a native of Middlesex, died March 5th. She was 82 years old.

Mrs. Whitley was a graduate of Spring Hope High School and helped organize the 62nd class reunion. She attended Hardbarger Business College and worked for State Insurance Company. With her twin sister Lucy, she embarked on a six week trip to Europe, crossing the Atlantic aboard the Queen Elizabeth.

In 1956, she married J. Rayford Whitley, her husband of 36 years. Together, they were longtime residents of Rochester, NY. Mrs. Whitley was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching children's Sunday school, and head the Flower Committee. The church altar was beautifully decorated with her flower arrangements.

In 1992, following the death of her husband, Mrs. Witley returned to North Carolina, and accomplished the renovation of her family home. In 2002, she fulfilled her lifelong desire to obtain a college education earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in history from Meredith College. She received a standing ovation from the faculty and fellow students as the oldest graduate of the the decade. She went on to serve as a docent at the Museum of History in Raleigh. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and as a literacy tutor. Mrs. Whitley was an active member Gold Valley Methodist Church and later Samaria Baptist Church.

Dur to declining health, Mrs. Whitley moved to Chicago in 2011 to be near her daughter Charlotte. She ultimately required hospice care and died at her daughter's home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her husband. J. Rayford Whitley, parents Annie Denton and Willie Morgan, brother Luther Morgan and sister Leasie Tant.

Sue is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (Lee Lohman) Whitley of Chicago, IL, Julia (Robert) Rogers of Louisville, KY, granddaughter, Meredith Rogers, Twin sister, Lucy (Richard) Morgan of Honolulu, HI, sister-in-law Jackie Boykin of Wendelll, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 9th at Samaria Baptist Church from 11 am - 1 pm with a funeral service to immediately follow. Interment will be at Social Plains Baptist Church.

Arrangements by Spring Hope Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Whitley's name to The Spring Hope Historical Association and Museum, P.O. Box 1251, Spring Hope, N.C. 27882.
