Funeral services for Swan G. Backlund were held Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Anderson Funeral Home at 1 p.m. and at 2 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran church of Holmes City, Rev. Ernest Olson officiated. Pallbearers were: Reuben Wagenius, Franklin Hagen, Willie Nelson, Ed Berglin, Carl Nelson and Sig Backlin. Interment was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.

Swan George Backlund, son of Jonas and Gertrude Backlund, was born April 17, 1885, in Grant county, Minnesota , and passed way Oct. 17 at his home in Holmes City. He was baptized and confirmed in Vennersborg Lutheran church near Hoffman, where he was a member until moving to Holmes City township.

He was united in marriage to Amanda Peterson, Oct. 26, 1910, and this union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters. Mrs. Backlund passed away in April, 1920, leaving him with four small children to care for.

In October, 1922, he moved to Holmes City township and was united in marriage to Clara Olson Feb. 21, 1925, this union also being blessed with four children, three daughters and one son. He was a member of the Oscar Lake church until transferring to Trinity church 14 years ago.

Left to mourn are his wife and eight children, Kermit of Alexandria; Mrs. Ted Junkermeier (Doris) Santa Ana, Calif., Gordon of Alexandria; Mrs. Lester Spilseth (Ruth) Shelton, Wash.; Eunice of Minneapolis; Marlys of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. John Peterson (Shirley) of Minneapolis and Douglas at home. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters: Adolph of Osakis; Francis of Monterey, Calif.; Mrs. Christine Thompson of Garfield; Mrs. Sigrid Yokel of Anaheim, Calif.; and Mrs. Ruth Ahlin of San Diego, Calif. Four brothers and two sisters have preceded him in death.
