Son of the late Johnnie Ray and Maude Amanda Bracy Brinkley, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Rae Brinkley Riddick. He was first married to Judith Isabelle Miller in 1961. He was survived by his second wife of 20 years, Kay Brinkley; daughter, Jennifer Brinkley; son, Jason Brinkley (Samira); twin grandsons, Jackson and Nicky Brinkley; and an extended family of relatives. He worked in the furniture industry for his entire business career. His graveside funeral was held on January 27, 2012. Cause of death: pancreatic cancer.
