Janet Carol Donoghue, 76, of Huntsville passed away on March 4, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born December 11, 1936 to Clarence and Mildred Simpson in Bay County, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Maj. Glen Michael Donoghue (ret.), her parents, and her brother, Walter Simpson.

She is survived by her son, Joseph (Kris Tielking) Donoghue of Madison; her three daughters, Shaun Phillips (Mark) of Madison, Carolyn Alkire (Todd) of Madison, and Christine Dauwen (Jon) of Huntsville; and seven grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Katherine, Brandon, William, Meghan, and Jesse; her brothers, Harold (Janabel) Simpson of Michigan and Gerald (Joyce) Simpson of Michigan, and sister, Linda (Ron) Ashley of Huntsville.

A long time Army wife and loving mother, Janet had many lifelong passions including nursing, her faith, travel, and a commitment to the community. She received her RN from Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and finished her BS in Nursing at the University of Central Michigan in 1961. Nursing was her passion; she continued working in critical care at Huntsville Hospital until the end. Educating her nursing colleagues and mentoring new nurses were both very important to her. Faith sustained her through life. She spent many hours in study and was active in many groups including Just Faith, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Eucharistic Minister, and Interfaith Missions.

Visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday, 3/8/2013, from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison, Alabama on Saturday, 3/9/2013, at 1 pm with Father Phil O'Kennedy officiating. A private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Huntsville-Madison County Rescue Squad.
